Message from the President...

Dear DJAES Parents,

Thank you for your constant support of Don Juan Avila Elementary PTA! We can't believe that it is Spring already, with Jog-A-Thon (April 23) and Teacher/Staff Appreciation Day (May 19) just around the corner! With that in mind, there will be a Room Parent Meeting this Wednesday, March 31st at 8:00am in the DJAES Library! Hope to see all of our room parents then!

We have had a very exciting year so far, with family fun events like Boo Bash and Music Night, programs such as Art Masters and Music Lessons, assemblies like Imagination Machine and Brass Pacifica (coming up soon!)...and much more! With the generosity and commitment of our DJAES families, PTA was able to raise enough funds to completely update our DJAES Computer Lab, which we hope to unveil at Open House!

We would like to thank our community partners for their support throughout this year...Family Man Carpet Cleaners, South Coast Orthodontics, Star Real Estate South County, YMCA, Elite Soccer, HCVT, The Perfect Impression, Renaissance Sport Club, Porky's Pizza, and Smoothie King!

While our focus is always on providing the very best opportunities for our students, PTA is aware of the difficulties facing our state and district.

As you know, the Governor's January budget proposal cuts education by $2.4 billion as well as making severe cuts to other children's programs. For CUSD, that represents an additional $12.5 million on top of the $21.5 million that the district was already planning to cut, for a total of $34 million in cuts needed for the 2010-11 school year.  One of the things PTAs across the state are trying to do is to have the Governor provide the necessary revenues for education and children's programs in his May budget proposal (called the May Revise) and for legislators to send him a final budget that does the same.

State PTA has put together an on-going advocacy campaign, called "9 Million Reasons to Speak Up for Children"  and a parent letter writing campaign is this month's component.  Please take the time to print out the letters attached in our website Legislation section and send them to our legislators.

I would like to extend Congratulations and a big Thank You to our newly elected PTA Executive Board for the 2010-2011 school year! Here is a quick list of our amazing volunteers!

Be a School-Wide Sponsor
Have you ever seen the banners hung on the fence as you drive through the drop off/pick up lane and wondered, “How do they get to hang their banners there?”

Well here is your chance! As you know, every day 1500 children are driven to school at Don Juan Avila. Wouldn’t you like to show the parents and students at DJAES that you support our school?

Your support helps to provide enrichment activities like field trips, music programs, art education, a librarian, assemblies and much, much more! READ MORE
